Meet Peabody!Peabody arrived at HSHPE in February 2024 after being rescued with 20 other rabbits. Staff and volunteers are still getting to know him, so make sure to check back for updates!Like all rabbits in HSHPE care, Peabody is provided a litter box to work on litter training while waiting for his forever home. He will require a large living space (an exercise pen is ideal) and plenty of time outside of his enclosure to exercise and play. Rabbits will not thrive if left in a small cage; this is a cruel and sad existence that often creates behavioral and medical issues. Providing your new companion attention, exercise, enrichment items, hideouts and toys will ensure they live a happy, healthy, and mentally stimulating life.As always, please do your research on rabbit behavior, heath, nutrition, and general care before applying to adopt. Rabbits are considered exotic pets that require specialized care (including vet care!) and live 10+ years if properly cared for. They make amazing companions but are not low maintenance or starter pets.Please visit HSHPE during open hours to spend some time with Peabody or call 613-968-XXXX for more information! Staff would be happy to discuss the adoption or foster care application process!All rabbit adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, RHDV1 and RHDV2 vaccine, and a gift card from Ren's Pets!Adoption processWe require potential adopters to fill out an pre-adoption application. If that application is approved, the dog/cat must be spayed/neutered before it leaves our shelter (if not already done). If it is a puppy under 4 months old, we allow it to go home with the adopters under a foster care agreement until it is old enough to be returned for spay/neuter. Kittens are allowed to leave before spay/neuter is done, but they must be done within a certain time frame.Fees: Dogs/puppies range from $150-300, depending on if they came in already spayed/neutered or if we paid to have that done. Cats range from $80 - $140, though we often have deals on older cats or cats that have been there a long time.Kittens are $60 with $25 refunded once it has been spayed/neutered.All adoptions include at least the first vaccination, deworming, de-fleaing, microchip ID, and 6 weeks of pet insurance.Shelter locationWe are located at 34 Wallbridge-Loyalist Road in Belleville.
