Located in Cambridge, Ontario.DOB April 21, 2022.Esmerelda is a very special girl. She’s beautiful with a fun personality but she does have her challenges. Esme is blind, its unclear how much vision she has, if any, but she has never let that stop her from living her life. She’s fully capable of finding her food, water and cat litter. She can climb cat trees and has the room she hangs out in completely mapped out.Esme’s other challenge is that she is very shy and nervous. She has come a very long way in foster care, it took her months to allow her foster parents to pet her without her hissing or walking away. She has taken her time to warm up to her foster parents, but she has learned they are here to love her and also give her the space she needs. She continues to show them how brave and resilient she is.Esme is looking for a quiet home with an experienced cat owner. Also a home without children, or other animals that might get in her personal space. She has been roommates with other cats that she has learned to tolerate, but only if they aren’t too invasive or curious and they give Esme her space and allow her to come to them if she wants.There is a very good probability that there will be some regression when Esme moves into a new home so her person has to be understanding and patient and not try to push her too far too fast. But she is very food motivated and has no qualms with being bribed.Esme truly does have a fun personality. She is sometimes super aloof and uninterested in you. And other times she is giving you little taps to get your attention. It’s funny to watch her approach so cautiously since she can't see you, but she can smell you. She lifts her paw ever so slowly and then TAP, she’s quick like lightning with that little paw, but she’s got your attention.She loves loud noisy toys, for obvious reasons, and sometimes she just picks them up to drop them so she can hear the noises they make.She also loves to just sit near an open window and listen to all the birds, smell all the smells and feel the breeze and warm sun.Esmerelda was found outdoors in the north and brought to TCR.Note from Esmerelda's foster family:Esmerelda has taken her time to learn to trust us and it has been incredibly rewarding to see her flourish. When she came to us we had no idea she was blind, but once we figured it out we understood why she was so terrified and reacted the way she did. Once we modified how we approached her she really started to become more comfortable. It took her months, but she finally actually enjoys being pet. She likes to be rubbed on the neck and will lean in and move her head around to help you reach the right spot, sometimes she will get up and seem like she’s walking away but she’ll turn around and try to sniff out your hand again to keep getting pets.She does hiss at things that scare her or at my kids, she’s still not fond of them, and likely never will be, they’re just so loud and quick and unpredictable. But she has never been aggressive, she is only letting you know how she’s feeling overwhelmed.Esme is a sweet little soul and a great listener. And I know the perfect person is out there to share her life with.
